Bec Smith is an agent at UTA in Los Angeles, a major talent agency with additional offices in New York, Nashville, Miami, London, Toronto and Malmo in Sweden. As a member of the Motion Picture Literary group she represents directors David Michôd (THE ROVER, ANIMAL KINGDOM), James Ponsoldt (THE END OF THE TOUR, THE SPECTACULAR NOW), Garth Davis (TOP OF THE LAKE), Lake Bell (IN A WORLD), Julia Leigh (SLEEPING BEAUTY), Mia Hansen-Love (EDEN), Joshua Oppenheimer (THE ACT OF KILLING, THE LOOK OF SILENCE) and writers Frank John Hughes (upcoming SPLINTER CELL for director Doug Liman) and Luke Davies (LIFE), to name a few. As part of UTA’S Independent Film Group Bec focuses on packaging, financing, and selling films. In this capacity she has worked on titles including James Ponsoldt’s THE CIRCLE, THE END OF THE TOUR and THE SPECTACULAR NOW, David Michôd’s THE ROVER, Julius Avery’s SON OF A GUN, Lake Bell’s IN A WORLD, Mike Birbiglia’s DON’T THINK TWICE and SLEEPWALK WITH ME, JC Chandor’s MARGIN CALL, Mike Mills’ BEGINNERS, and Greg Mottola’s ADVENTURELAND. A former producer and film journalist, Bec joined UTA from the Sydney office of Working Title Films where she was Head of Development. Bec executive produced ANIMAL KINGDOM, which won the 2010 Sundance Film Festival’s Dramatic World Cinema Jury Prize. Prior to working in development and production she was the Australasian bureau chief of the Hollywood Reporter and the editor of Inside Film Magazine in Australia. She is on the Board of Los Angeles based cinemateque The Cinefamily, served on the advisory board of IFP, and is a regular attendee of major film festivals and markets including Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Toronto and the American Film Market.
